American Fingered is my twisted, surreal take on one of the most recognizable paintings in American art history—American Gothic.
I painted this piece live alongside Richard Finger in Denver during their first-ever headlining shows, working on it across both nights and letting the energy, humor, and absolute weirdness of the weekend make its way onto the canvas.
Instead of the famously stern couple from the original, American Fingered transforms the figures themselves into enormous hands throwing up the middle finger, with faces, eyes, and expressions melting and morphing throughout their skin. The farmhouse and iconic pitchfork remain as a nod to the original composition, while everything else gets pushed deep into the strange world of Morphis Art.
Equal parts tribute, parody, and psychedelic absurdity, this is a one-of-one original tied to a special moment in Richard Finger history.
